Pregnancy Announcement Photos: Ideas on How to Share the News Beautifully

If you’re are in the middle of planning for pregnancy announcement photos, first of all, congratulations! You’re about to share one of the biggest secrets of your life with the world. You NEED to celebrate that! That’s why I’m sharing my approach as a maternity announcement photographer and how I get couples to relax and just BE together in front of the camera and examples of the different couples I’ve done their photoshoot to announce pregnancy!

I’ve photographed many pregnancy announcements over my 14 years photographing South Florida and Boca Raton moms, and I’ve got some great insight and ideas for you! Whether at a beach at sunrise in Fort Lauderdale in the summer or at my maternity and newborn photo studio, I’ve got some great pregnancy reveal photo ideas for you!

Pregnancy Announcement Photos & Cards: Real Examples

These are real examples that my clients used to reveal their pregnancy to their friends and family. You can see that I shot these images wide so that there was plenty of negative space to add text.

I also used a more emotional feeling font for the text. Its called Amalfi Coast and is perfect for a pregnancy announcement card!

Example #1

Mom, Kirstin, and her family flew in from Connecticut for her pregnancy announcement pictures – so humbled they choose me as their photographer. She brought her 18 month old daughter, Kayla, and we just had a great time at the beach.

Here we see an example of pregnancy announcement card with photo taken at sunrise on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

I love how mom and daughter are in matching blue gingham swimsuits. All mom’s idea and it worked perfect for these beach shots!

Example #2

This is a beautiful announcement card in a vertical orientation and I used the same Amalfi Coast font that I love.

I’ve known this adorable young couple for years and am so, so happy for them to be expecting their first baby!

Here we see another example of a pregnancy announcement card with the photo taken at this couple’s home.

I prompted dad to twirl mom around so that her shirt raised up and exposed her baby bump. I also shot this vertical and left some negative space at the top to leave room for text.

With dad smiling and looking right at mom. This made the most creative pregnancy announcement picture!

Couple Pregnancy Announcement Photos

There are so many ways to photograph your new baby on the way as a couple! Here are some of my favorites.

Opt for Doing Your Pictures At Home

I have photographed some of the most beautiful pregnancy announcement photos right at home. Couples in their own home, own space and familiar surroundings are sometimes the easiest and work well for a couple who has a busy work schedule.

Here is an example of an in-home pregnancy announcement picture. For this young couple, Ben and Olivia, we just used their kitchen countertop.

I had Ben and Olivia touch foreheads and dad placed his hands on mom’s baby bump. They just wore light jeans and white tops to keep outfits super simple and neutral!

At-home pregnancy announcement sessions are one of my favorite things to photograph because the setting does half the work. Natural window light, your favorite corner of the house, the staircase you walk up- all perfect locations to shoot in the comfort of your own home.

Surprise Pregnancy Reveal Photos: Capturing the Moment He Finds Out

One of the most memorable pregnancy announcement sessions I’ve ever photographed started with a secret. Mom reached out and asked if we could plan what dad thought was just a couples photoshoot for their anniversary, but she had something MUCH bigger in mind.

Hidden in the session was a surprise pregnancy reveal, and when the moment was just right, she turned and showed him the news printed on the tiniest little onesie.

Maternity Announcement Photos Using Ultrasound or Sonogram

It might seem even too easy but simply holding your ultrasound photo in front of your baby bump is a classic maternity announcement photo idea.

I’ll guide you so it feels casual and natural not like you’re just holding up a piece of paper for the camera. I’ll help you place your ultrasound photo right in the middle of your baby bump and this shot will be close up, too.

Maternity Announcement Pictures With Family + Siblings

Including the entire family is one of my favorite pregnancy reveal photoshoot ideas! Documenting your family exactly as it is in this moment, before new baby arrives!

If there is a big brother or big sister already at home, I’ve got a couple cute ideas for you!

Whole Family Playing Outside

These are the portraits that will one day tell the story of before. To me this is a great opportunity for the older siblings to be part of the excitement of expecting a new baby. Before they become the big kid overnight.

Here we see the Rowland family at their maternity announcement shoot. We dressed mom in a fitted cream dress with her daughters, Natalia and Fern, in matching sundresses!
In this photo mom Ellen and big sister Katie enjoyed a moment dressed in beautiful dresses playing in the sunlight!

Take Siblings to the Beach

This session was so much fun for mom and her 18 month old daughter. We went to a local South Florida beach at sunrise. Was it early? Yes! Was it worth it? Also yes!

This is a way to incorporate siblings into the photos and still have a lot of fun.

Use a New Baby or Big Brother or Sister Book as a Prop

If this isn’t your first baby, I love to include siblings and we can make it fun with a book prop. One that sneaks in the title of “New Baby” or “Big Sister or Big Brother”. I love the Berenstain Bears New Baby book! I make sure to get this book right in front of the sibling and I usually do this shot on a bed set up.

I think it makes your pregnancy announcement pics even more personal!

Here we see siblings, Sterling and Annabelle, reading a book about welcoming a new baby into the family! It’s the perfect prop for cute and funny pregnancy announcement photos!

I have also done pregnancy announcement pictures where moms are snuggled up on the couch, a toddler kissing mom’s belly, dad swinging his little one in the backyard.

Pregnancy Announcement Picture Using Baby Shoes or a Onesie

Another creative and cute idea for maternity announcement pictures is incorporating a tiny pair of baby shoes or a baby onesie!

You could hold it out to the side of your baby bump or have it between the expecting mom and dad. One hold its from each side.

When to Take Pregnancy Announcement Photos

The best time for a pregnancy announcement photoshoot is between 12 and 16 weeks. Here’s why that window works so well:

  1. Your cute baby bump has just started to show but you’re still comfortable enough to easily move around
  2. Most parents wait until after the first trimester to share the news, so this timing feels like the safest option for many couples
  3. Morning sickness has usually passed and your energy is back up

Ultimately, the right time is whenever you and your partner feel ready. Just let me know your timeline and I’ll plan the session around it.

How to Turn Your Photos into Announcement Cards

You’ve got the photos now let’s turn them into something you can actually send. Whether you’re mailing printed cards, sending a group text or posting to Instagram, here’s how to I would make your maternity announcement pictures look polished and intentional.

Where to Order Pregnancy Announcement Cards

Here are my go-to recommendations for printed announcements:

  • Minted — Best overall for quality and design variety
  • Artifact Uprising — Great for a minimal, editorial look
  • Etsy — Perfect for custom or hand-lettered designs
  • Local South Florida print shops — Ask me for recommendations if you prefer to keep it local

How to Design Your Announcement

Your photos should do the heavy lifting. When putting your announcement together, follow these steps:

  1. Pick your strongest image. I prefer single photo announcements for more visual impact
  2. Use negative space for text
  3. Use an emotional quote (see my examples above and list below)
  4. Avoid busy fonts, heavy graphics, or too many photos crammed into one design (see my font list below)

Best Fonts for Pregnancy Announcement Cards

Fonts make a bigger difference than most people think. Here are some beautiful options that pair well with pregnancy announcement photos:

Classic & Elegant:

  • Playfair Display
  • Cormorant Garamond
  • Libre Baskerville

Modern & Clean:

  • Montserrat
  • Raleway
  • Josefin Sans

Handwritten & Organic:

  • Pinyon Script
  • Sacramento
  • Dancing Script

Stick to one or two fonts max — one for the headline and one for the details. Mixing too many kills the elegance fast.

Pregnancy Announcement Quotes & Caption Ideas

  1. We thought our hearts were full, then we found out they could grow a little more.
  2. A new baby is on the way and we are completely over the moon.
  3. Dancing into the next chapter. Baby [Last Name], coming soon.
  4. And then there were three.
  5. The best things in life are worth the wait.
  6. Our greatest adventure is about to begin.
  7. Coming soon: the tiniest person we’ve ever loved the most.
  8. Plot twist. Promoted to Mom & Dad.
  9. Our family is growing by two tiny feet.
  10. Our prayers have been answered.

When to Share Your Pregnancy Announcement Pictures

Early Announcements (10–12 Weeks): Some of my clients just can’t hold it in and I can’t blame them! At this stage your bump may not be visible yet, but that’s where we get creative and figure out some cute poses or unique ideas! Bonus: if you did early genetic testing, we can work a gender reveal into the same session.

Later Announcements (After 20 Weeks): Other clients want to wait until their bump is for sure showing and they’ve had their anatomy scan. These sessions have a completely different feel and if you held off on finding out the gender, this is your chance to reveal everything at once.
